How School Year Calendars reads district calendars, which steps are automated, which are checked by hand, and how dates are corrected.

Last updated: 2026-10-16

School Year Calendars publishes the dates in each public school district's own 2026-27 calendar, written out so families can plan around them. This page explains where those dates come from, what we do with them and where our own arithmetic begins.

Sources we use

We use one source for every district: the calendar file the district itself published, linked from its own website. When a district hosts its calendar on Google Drive or a file service, we link that same file. We do not use news stories, social media posts or other calendar websites as a source, and we do not fill a gap with a guess. A district without a readable 2026-27 calendar does not get a page.

What is automated

Each calendar file is read by two language models from different companies. A date is kept only when both readings agree on it. Scripts then check every result: the file must name the district, it must be the 2026-27 year, and a first day or single day off that lands on a weekend is rejected as a misread month.

What is checked by hand

Calendars often mark a day with no students only through a color, a symbol or the monthly day count printed beside the grid. Those days are checked by eye against the original file, and when a calendar prints its own day totals, those totals are used to settle a day the legend leaves in doubt. Every hand correction is recorded with the reason and the evidence from the original file. Days the original leaves unclear are shown as printed, not resolved by guessing.

Our numbers versus the district's

Counts on this site, such as weekdays off, long weekends or days in the school year, are our arithmetic from the published dates. They are not a district's official count of instructional days, which can differ when make-up days, partial days or remote days count differently.

Corrections

If a date here does not match your district's calendar, tell us through the contact page. We check the report against the original file and fix the page. Notable corrections are listed on the corrections page.

Independence

School Year Calendars is an independent site and is not affiliated with any school district or education department. The site may show advertising; advertisers have no say in which districts we cover or what the pages say.
